    Educational Objectives

    • Identify patient-specific factors and glycemic patterns that influence insulin medication-taking behaviors in people with type 2 diabetes
    • Interpret glycemia data to provide insulin adjustment recommendations for therapy optimization
    • Apply emerging insulin therapies and communication skills to address patient barriers and improve medication-taking behaviors

    Overview:

Optimizing insulin therapy in people living with type 2 diabetes (T2D) requires pharmacists to integrate glycemic data interpretation, have an understanding of patient-specific factors, and be effective with communication strategies that support medication-taking behaviors. Many individuals using insulin face challenges related to regimen complexity, comfort with injections, fluctuating glycemic patterns, and evolving lifestyle demands. Pharmacists are uniquely positioned to identify these factors and guide patients toward safer, more individualized insulin use. Through expert-led discussion and case-based learning, participants will learn how to analyze glycemic patterns to determine when insulin adjustments are appropriate, identify the patient-specific factors that influence insulin medication-taking behaviors, and apply motivational interviewing techniques to uncover barriers and support shared decision-making. The program will also highlight how emerging insulin-management technologies can be incorporated into patient conversations to enhance engagement and improve day-to-day insulin use. Upon completion, all attendees will receive access to a "Train the Trainer" toolkit, enabling them to help transform insulin use within their own clinical practices.
